Overview

Nelson Mullins, an AmLaw 100 law firm, is seeking a Tax Accountant to join our internal tax team in Columbia, South Carolina. This role focuses on the firm’s own tax compliance and reporting, offering an opportunity to work in a complex, multi-state environment without the demands of a billable-hour structure. This is an ideal role for a tax professional seeking a more sustainable pace while gaining exposure across compliance, reporting, and planning initiatives. You will work closely with the Senior Tax Accountant and collaborate with firm leadership.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing federal, state, and local tax filings for the firm and related entities, as well as managing recurring areas such as state tax credits, property tax, and fixed assets. The role supports tax planning initiatives by identifying potential risks and opportunities, assists with audits and regulatory inquiries, and partners with internal teams to gather and validate financial data. Additionally, it involves contributing to process improvements and maintaining thorough documentation.

We Know You

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field and possess at least three years of relevant tax experience. A CPA designation, or active progress toward obtaining one, is preferred. They should demonstrate a strong understanding of both federal and state tax concepts, along with excellent analytical and organizational skills. Additionally, the candidate must be able to communicate effectively and collaborate across teams.
