Overview

Nelson Mullins an AmLaw 60 firm, is seeking an experienced Benefits Administrator to oversee partner-level and employee retirement programs, trust operations, and executive benefit plans. This role is essential in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of the firm’s complex benefit structures while delivering a high-quality experience to partners, executives, attorneys, internal stakeholders, auditors, actuaries, and external vendors. You will help drive firmwide benefits strategy, maintain regulatory compliance, and support leadership with data-driven insights.

A Day in the Life

As the Benefits Administrator, you will serve as the primary resource for partner‑level and executive retirement benefits. Your day involves administering multiple retirement plan types, coordinating trust‑related activities, managing the full Form 5500 and audit cycle, partnering with actuaries on valuations and funding projections, preparing advanced Excel‑based financial reporting, and supporting the Benefits Committee with governance materials and recommendations. You’ll collaborate with investment managers, trust departments, attorneys, auditors, and senior leadership to ensure compliant, accurate, and efficient management of the firm’s benefit programs.
 
  • Administer partner‑level, executive, and employee retirement plans, including 401(k), cash balance, defined benefit, and deferred compensation programs.
  • Oversee coordination with trust departments and investment managers.
  • Lead the annual Form 5500 process and manage retirement plan audits, including work with external auditors such as RSM.

  • 5+ years of experience administering complex retirement programs.
  • Strong knowledge of 401(k), defined benefit, cash balance, or deferred compensation plans.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Excel and benefits-related data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to support and advise senior leadership.
