Overview

Nelson Mullins is seeking a litigation paralegal in our Charlotte office to assist attorneys representing leading automotive and medical device manufacturers in a range of matters pending in State and Federal courts throughout California.

A Day in the Life

Performing a broad range of substantive paralegal tasks, this role involves working directly with attorneys on litigation related to medical devices, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, industrial machinery, and construction equipment. Responsibilities include preparing drafts of pleadings, notices, and motions, and maintaining direct contact with outside, third-party distributors to obtain records and coordinate inspections. Additional tasks include preparing medical records summaries and chronologies, organizing and preparing deposition materials, exhibits, and summaries, preparing case files for expert and corporate witness depositions, tracking and managing discovery, including the preparation and service of document productions, and participating in litigation strategy meetings.

We Know You

The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of litigation experience in a law firm, including case preparation from beginning to end and an understanding of a paralegal’s role in the litigation life cycle. You will possess well-developed critical thinking and organizational skills, along with the ability to meet deadlines. A strong sense of accountability, ownership over projects and responsibilities, and a proactive approach to resolving issues are essential. Being a true team player and a technology pro, with the ability to quickly learn new software, is also important. Paralegal expertise and a keen eye for detail will be utilized to enhance teamwork, client services, and overall efficiency.

 

A 2- or 4-year degree and a paralegal certificate are preferred, though relevant work experience may be substituted for formal education. The ideal candidate should also have the ability to conduct research using various tools, including the Internet and Westlaw. Flexibility to work overtime as needed to meet business demands is essential.
