A Day in the Life

The Business Development Executive (BDE) is an experienced client development professional in a client- and partner-facing position who identifies and develops client opportunities and provides strategic and practical client relationship advice for the Nelson Mullins Encompass team.

This position can be based out of any Nelson Mullins location.

The BDE role involves:

  • Building relationships with those responsible for purchasing discovery services, and pursuing potential business leads
  • Collaborating with our professionals to develop a customized, actionable, and measurable approach to growing and retaining clients
  • Creating and implementing tailored and targeted business development plans
  • Developing advanced understanding of Encompass’s competencies, the clients and industries served by Encompass, and other firm teams to aid in identifying business development opportunities
  • Proactively identifying new business opportunities, and leading attorneys, the marketing department, and other firm advisors from pitch to execution
  • Identifying cross-selling and cross-marketing opportunities for existing and potential firm clients
  • Coordinating pitches, including drafting responses to RFPs and/or RFIs and presentations, collecting attorney input, and managing the organization and final editing of submission materials
  • Researching relevant market trends, competitive insights, and client news in support of client development efforts and to enhance Encompass’s knowledge-base and existing client relationships
  • Offering advice and preparation to attorneys and other firm leadership in advance of communicating with current and prospective clients
  • Conducting post-pitch debriefs, tracking and providing insights into successful and unsuccessful selling activities
  • Conducting post-matter reviews, providing feedback to Encompass leadership regarding client relationship improvement and identifying actionable steps for maintaining the client relationship and opportunity pipeline
  • Travel required

We Know You

Candidates should possess the following:

  • 5 or more years of direct business development/sales experience in a professional services firm
  • Ability to interact at the C-suite level of existing and prospective clients
  • Experience working in a partnership environment
  • Ability to work internally as a trusted advisor with firm partners, associates, and others in various geographies, industries, and practice areas
  • Knowledge of the discovery and litigation life cycle
  • Affinity for technology, with the ability to understand Encompass’s competencies, as well as to deploy internal tools to aid in efficiency and communication
  • Good judgment and leadership in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate to legal and non-legal professionals
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Superior project management skills, with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines across projects
  • Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree preferred
