The New York office of Nelson Mullins seeks an IP Assistant to work within a patent, trademark/copyright, and IP litigation practice supporting a firm Partner and an Of Counsel attorney, performing tasks related to docket and practice management, USPTO filings, correspondence with foreign counsel and clients, legal research, litigation support, and routine tasks as needed for a busy IP practice in both the biotech/pharma and medical devices industries. The IP Assistant provides both practice-specific and administrative support and reports to the designated IP Coordinator for the Life Sciences team. This role requires in-depth knowledge and experience regarding patent and trademark prosecution requirements and is directly responsible for all U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) filings as well as supervision of the timekeepers’ overall docket and administrative needs. The IP Practice Group is seeking a motivated individual who can quickly learn and navigate the procedures and intricacies of two IP teams, and who can operate independently and interface across multiple firm locations.
Ideal candidate has 3+ years of patent and trademark prosecution experience, preferably in a high-volume law firm environment. Candidate should have strong organizational and prioritization skills, the confidence and knowledge to synthesize information and work independently, the ability to stay calm under pressure, and should be team-oriented.
